A Week with Lexus UX

Last week, I had the pleasure of driving around in a gorgeous, new Lexus UX. The UX is the first-ever crossover vehicle for Lexus. And let me tell you – they did good! Not only is the car super functional, it is also the smoothest ride ever. After driving the Lexus for a week, I noticed so many differences in the way it drives compared to the way my own car drives. This might sound weird, but the turn radius is incredible. I park in a parking garage and there are some tight turns as you pull into the garage. In the Lexus, I quickly maneuvered my way around, never coming close to a corner as I pulled into my spot.

The interior of the car is also amazing. You basically control everything from the middle console. As you’re driving you don’t have to get distracted trying to find the right button to push to change the radio station or turn down the volume. The controls are placed exactly where your hand falls when resting on the arm rest. From there, you can switch radio stations, change songs, turn the volume up or down, etc. This took some getting used to for me, but the more I drove the car, the more comfortable and practical it became.

My Favorite Thing About the Lexus UX

The above elements are amazing, but I have to say my favorite part about the car is its pickup. You usually don’t expect fast pick up in an SUV or crossover, but the Lexus UX is different. The model I drove has the option to put the car in Sport, Normal or Eco mode. Sport mode allows for that faster acceleration and quick switching of lanes. I would turn Sport mode on when getting on the highway, but it doesn’t really make sense for city driving. I love that you have the option though to use it when it makes sense. And honestly, even when it didn’t make sense, I was having too much fun zipping around town in a fancy car.

Now that the Lexus is gone, I have to get used to driving our car again. I miss the smooth steering and bump-less drives. That says a lot about a car, especially in Chicago, that you don’t feel any bumps while driving. This city is full of potholes (which I avoid like the plague, but let’s be honest, we’ve all hit a couple) and you can really feel them in most cars.

I guess I need to start saving for the day I can have my own Lexus UX…until then, I’ll keep dreaming of my week long love affair with the UX 😉
