Love Yourself and Love GM
Happy Monday, friends! I posted on Instagram this week about comparing myself to others in my personal life. We look at Instagram and only see the “perfect” lives that others lead. All these perfect pictures in these pretty little square. But let’s be real, there is so much more in everyone’s life than what we show on Instagram. For instance:
Reality: I’m currently sitting on my couch in a fuzzy sweatshirt that is 6 years old, my hair hasn’t been washed in 4 days and is in a messy bun on top of my head, I have no makeup on and my glasses on.
Instagram: I just posted a picture of me in a cute outfit that I shot over a week ago.
It’s hard not to get caught up in it all, but when I take a step back, I realize that there is so much more to me and my life and I don’t need to worry about the “perfect” lives of others.
Beyond my personal self, I’ve realized that lately I have started comparing my IG and blog to others as well. I’ve been so frustrated with the constant changes on Instagram. I put so much time and effort into my posts only to see them not show up for my followers or potential new followers. But then I look at other bloggers, who seem to do the same things as me, but continue to grow and have high engagement on their posts. I wonder what I’m doing wrong or how I can better my own posts.
After posting about my personal life comparisons and receiving so many sweet comments from my followers, I realized that this whole comparison game is silly. I may not be getting the engagement I want on my posts, but that’s no reason to think what I’m posting is not good. I try to only share things I love or relate to. I want to present genuine content to my followers that they want to comment on. I’m beginning to realize that the number listed under “followers” doesn’t matter as much as the number of genuine followers I have. I want people who care about what I’m saying to follow me. I want to engage with my followers and get to know them better and them get to know me better. With that being said, I really do appreciate everyone who takes the time to read these posts (even if there aren’t that many of you) and everyone who does follow me and engage with me on IG. I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing without you all, so thank you!!!!
A couple of people who commented on my post left the same quote and I could not agree with it more. It says “comparison is the thief of joy.” The moment we begin comparing ourselves to others, the moment we lose our own joy. So let’s focus on ourself and find our own joy!
Now let’s get down to some of the fashion talk. I recently partnered with Goodnight Macaroon and I cannot say enough good things about them. I purchased items myself prior to this collaboration and am always tempted to buy more. Below are just a few of my favorite picks from their site. I can’t wait to see what they launch for Spring/Summer because their Fall/Winter product was too good!!!
